Tippi Benjamine Okanti Degré, daughter of French wildlife photographers Alain Degré and Sylvie Robert, was born in Namibia. During her childhood she befriended many wild animals, including a 28-year old elephant called Abu and a leopard nicknamed J&B. She was embraced by the Bushmen and the Himba tribespeople of the Kalahari, who taught her how to survive on roots and berries, as well as how to speak their language.

We have a program like this in Hawaii, although I don’t think it’s called the same thing. We volunteered to have a trap set up at our old house once, but ended up catching only our own cat, and then later a very angry mongoose. But this program is pretty awesome — they trap the community cats, spay or neuter them, put in a chip or a notch in the ear to mark that they’ve been fixed, and then release them back into their home community.
However, I would like to say that feral cats are NOT unadoptable. Just because your cat is an outdoor cat doesn’t mean he’s not a part of your family. Our old tom, Django, is a strictly outdoor cat (by his own choosing — he was terribly unhappy inside), and he gets fed and watered every day. He hangs out close to the house and comes around to snuggle when he feels like it. And two of our others, who ARE strictly indoor cats, were feral to begin with. Tricky Woo and Sango showed up at our house looking for food, and now they’re happy, permanent residents.
I think a lot of us know that it’s bullshit to say that feral cats aren’t adoptable. Of course, if you’re looking for a cat, and you have a choice between a feral cat and a shelter cat, chances are the shelter cat needs a home more than the feral.
Despite its name, the maned wolf is not a wolf at all, nor is it a fox, coyote, or dog. It is the only member of the Chrysocyon genus, making it a truly unique animal, not closely related to any other living canid. One hypothesis for this is that the maned wolf is the last surviving species of the Pleistocene Extinction, which wiped out all other large canids from the continent.

Oh my gosh people, be nice to your waiter/waitress, it’s not their fault that your food is cold or if it’s under cooked. Be nice to the cashiers who are still training and can’t ring up your items as quickly as you want. If a stranger smiles and says hello to you, smile and say hello back! It’s just common courtesy, I don’t understand why people have to be so rude.
